Hair dying advice needed

So, if you were theoretically going to let your senior youth students dye your hair, oh, let's say blue -- just theoretically -- for a Harry Potter camp, would you attempt to bleach your hair by yourself first, or go do that part at a salon?

Strictly theoretically, of course.

Hmmm...well, if you've never bleached your hair before, and
1. Don't know how it will take and/or
2. Don't know how to do it yourself

you may wanna go to a salon, if it won't cost you too much. I have just heard sooooooo many bad stories about people trying to bleach their hair and it turning green or some such putrid color...

She called me for just a second this morning. They're hot and miserable and exhausted, but safe. The shelter is right next to her apartment building so she came out to get some air, which she really shouldn't have done. I read this morning that at least 5 missles have hit the ground in her town. My poor baby sounds exhausted and I wish I could just put my arms around her and keep her safe so she could get some rest.

This incident has really pointed up to me how online friendships open us up to what is going on in the world. The heatwave in France a couple of summers back, Katrina, 9-11 and now this war, which otherwise would tend to remain at headline-distance: it all looks very different when you know someone who lives there.

Which is a good thing. We all need to open up and be more aware.

If you have jetblack hair, like me, you wanna go to a salon because if you do it yourself it will sometimes (often) turn piss yellow which mixed with blue will turn out green.

I had my hair bleached all white once. Mom paid :-D

I'd buy a bleaching kit and try it out on some of my hair - if it turned out piss, I'd go to the salon and they'd fix it. If It turned out cool, I'd dye the whole thing :-D

Logan I have hair about your colour naturally, and when I tried to do it myself I ended up calico with a bright white spot on top and spots all around. I am also v. proficient in normal hair dying.

It would depend what sort of blue dye they were using, and exactly how blue I wanted to be. If I wanted that electric blue (think LJ user names blue) I'd go get bleached. If I wanted a blue tint I'd leave it, unless they were using a "wash out in ten washes" dye in which case I'd get bleached.

I won't go to a hairdresser for colour, as the product they use is no better or worse than home colours (didn't always work that way) unless it's free. I figure I know enough gay men I should never have to pay to have my hair done! *L*

I've done everything to my hair you can do w/out being arrested, I'm sure, including bleach. I highly recommend L'Oreal's Blondissimo. Depending on how dark your hair is, you may need to apply twice, but I did it, and nothing fell out. I also threw a red on top of it right after and got this great pink thing for a while. Fun fun. :D

You have dark brown hair like me...since it sounds like you are going all out, and will be blue anyway, afterwards, might as well just let them have all the fun.
