Cassie, my beautiful firstborn child, the most amazing girl ever born, died Thursday night. She was sixteen, and
now she is free after a lifetime of pain from living with Epidermolysis Bullosa.

I'm so sorry for your loss, Logan. I've always thought her heart was bigger than she was, as it had no boundaries. I wish you and Walt peace during your grieving time.

One of the big reasons I finally broke down and got a facebook was to follow your family (and others from here who ended up over there, of course, but your family is special). Much love to you all - losing someone you love, even though you know it is always a possibility, is earth shattering and shocking and numbing all at once. You will get through this, and you will find the way to live your life again without her by your side, but always with you. No, I can't imagine losing a child - losing a spouse IS different - but this brought back those first days where everything is a blur, you want to reach back into time and grasp hard and not let go but you know you can't.

She left quite the legacy though! So many videos and good things and pictures, I smile when I think of them all. How many children touch lives like Cassie did? Because she certainly did.

Not sure how we became lj friends, as I know we haven't met, but I have followed your struggles for several years. Be gentle with yourself after this long hard struggle. If you have them in your area, please contact hospice or gildas club. They have both been useful for me in my recovery after my mom's death. You have done so much more with so much less.
