Just my one lone piece of meta about the finale.

For everyone who is whinging about Lisa at the end, I don't think it was about Lisa at all. It was about Ben. It was about Dean wanting to be a different man than his father, do right by his son in a way his father didn't do for him and Sam. Wanting to give Ben the childhood that John didn't give Sam. Or Adam, for that matter. Wanting the next generation of Winchesters to have different choices.

Ah, see, I don't think it was about Lisa or Ben. It was about Sam. Chuck/God said it: Dean wanted with every fiber of his being to either die or find a way to get his brother back. But he promised Sam he wouldn't.

The life he's trying to live with Lisa and Ben, that's the life that Sam wanted for him. It's the life that Dean might tell himself he wants, but it's pretty obvious to me that he's going to find out soon enough that it's not what he needs. The only thing that can make him happy is Sam, and without him nothing means anything.

Well, I think that's a given. Dean's not going to be content. But I can imagine him in the car, driving towards Lisa, telling himself that this is what Sam wants, for one of them to have a normal life, to give this to Dean, and as much as he wants to drive the car off the road and end it, he can try, to be there for Ben, to be a father and do all the stuff that Sam didn't get to have as a kid. I can see him wanting to redo Sam's childhood through Ben, to try and go live a life he thinks would make Sam proud.

and btw, lol, are you home or just for a bit? Cause I was given a bookshelf for Cassie's closet to organize her bandages that I need to leave about 1:30 to go pick up. So just letting you know, won't be back until about 3 or so, need to make groceries after that as I have nothing to feed Walt for lunch.

I'm glad that Dean had Lisa and Ben to turn to. If anyone needs mothering it's Dean whether he knows it or not. Sammy sent him to the right place. I think it would have been way too painful, as someone else mentioned, I can't remember who at the moment, for Dean to be around Bobby. He's too much of a reminder of Dean's past. I think you're mostly right about Dean wanting to give Ben what neither him or Sam, a normal family life. But, I also think it has something to do with Lisa as well. I think it's more about what she represents than something particular about her.

Wanting to give Ben the childhood that John didn't give Sam. Hmmm. Maybe, that's what Dean would try and make himself believe in. But he has only three months to give Ben a glimpse what's having a father is, because I bet Dean'd be snatched out and put back on the road with Sam and Castiel soon. And honestly, that's where I want him to be.

OMG NO WAY. I found you on AMA and I click on your name. You're a SPN fan too! Hell yeah! Now that the premiere of S6 has aired, I have to say that you're kinda right but kinda wrong. I think a lot of it is about Ben for both Dean and Lisa (notice during the convo on the stairs, she didn't say anything about her feelings towards Dean. It was all about her son). But yeah, I think it is a little about Lisa too. Maybe they aren't in love, but they do care about one another and they're partners in a sense. I like that about them.
